BSB Swing! Leader - Sean McKenzie
BSB Swing! is lead by Sean McKenzie. Sean is a recent graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where he studied jazz saxophone under John Stefulj and Graeme Norris. Sean's recent career has seen him playing with Emma Pask (Noosa Cheese and Wine Festival), the Con-Artists Big Band as lead Saxophone and the Queensland Youth Orchestra Big Band.
As a diverse player, Sean has also fronted local gypsy group 'Greshka', is resident saxophonist for originals act 'The Ride' and corporate band, 'Natural Groove'. Sean also coordinates the popular funk/soul outfit 'His Merry Men' with his horn section, the 'Hell Yeah Horns!'. Within these groups, Sean has performed at festivals such as Woodford Folk Fest, Brisbane Festival, The Snowy Mountains of Music, Brisbane Multicultural Festival, Darling Harbour Jazz Fest and the Valley Fiesta.
For the last three years, Sean has been developing his pedagogy as a woodwind teacher. Sean has taught at numerous primary schools in Brisbane through DDJ Productions and now resides at Fireworks Music School in Kelvin Grove, predominantly teaching children from the ages of ten to fifteen. Being appointed as leader of BSB Swing! in 2011, Sean looks forward to participating in the musical development of the community with an emphasis on team achievements.
