Conductor - Stefanie Smith

Stefanie SmithThe Brisbane Symphonic Band is conducted by Stefanie Smith. Stefanie graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Pedagogy in November 2005, where she studied Clarinet performance and teaching under Paul Dean. At the University of Queensland, Stefanie was a Principal Clarinettist and Bass Clarinettist with the University Symphony Orchestra and the Concert Master of the University Wind Band. In 2005, Stefanie also worked with the University of Queensland Wind Band as a conductor and solo performer.

In 2005 Stefanie worked as Assistant Conductor with the Sunshine Coast Orchestra and began her education career as the instrumental music teacher and band conductor at Prince of Peace Lutheran School in Everton Hills, expanding the scope and size of the school's music program. Stefanie has also worked as an instrumental music teacher with Education Queensland and is currently an instrumental teacher at Marist College, Ashgrove

Stefanie was an Alto Clarinettist with the Queensland Youth Orchestras Wind Symphony and during 2004 and 2005 she had the opportunity to conduct the ensemble, working in master classes guided by Dr Tim Reynish and Mr Peter Francis.

In 2004 Stefanie participated in the Symphony Australia Conductor Development Program where she was given the opportunity to work with two of Australia's state Orchestras, The Queensland Orchestra and the Tasmania Symphony Orchestra, learning from internationally renowned conductors Christopher Seaman and Johannes Fritsch.

Stefanie was appointed conductor and musical director of the Brisbane Symphonic Band in 2006 and she is further developing the band's musical capabilities as she prepares them for their busy concert calendar and tour schedule.
